Perched on the edge of a massive volcanic caldera, the Kintamani highland offers what is arguably the most breathtaking, dramatic panorama in all of Bali. At the center of it all stands the imposing Mount Batur, an active volcano, sitting next to the crescent-shaped Lake Batur.

"To gaze upon Mount Batur as the clouds roll through the caldera is to witness the raw, volcanic heartbeat of Bali."

An Active Volcanic Landscape

Mount Batur last erupted in 2000, leaving striking fields of black lava that streak down its slopes into the valley below. Despite its active status, the area is safe to visit and has become one of the island's most iconic natural attractions. The altitude of Kintamani provides a distinctively cool, refreshing climate, a perfect contrast to the tropical heat of Bali's southern beaches.
