Hidden away in the peaceful village of Tua, Tabanan, lies a living monument of Bali's ancient past. The Pohon Kayu Putih (White Wood Tree) is not just a tree; it is a towering natural wonder, a spiritual guardian, and a photographer's absolute dream. Standing over 50 meters tall with a network of giant roots that sprawl across the earth like sleeping dragons, this tree leaves every visitor in absolute awe.

"To stand beneath the colossal branches of Kayu Putih is to feel the heartbeat of ancient Bali. It is a sanctuary where time stands completely still."

A Legend Etched in Giant Bark

Estimated to be over 700 years old, this majestic Ficus albipila tree has witnessed centuries of Balinese history. Local villagers hold the tree in deep reverence. According to local elders, the tree is considered sacred and is believed to house ancestral spirits that protect the village from negative energies.

It is located directly adjacent to Pura Babakan, a highly revered Hindu temple. The spiritual synergy between the temple and the ancient tree means that visitors are required to show respect. Men and women are expected to dress modestly—often provided with a traditional sarong by the friendly locals at the entrance—before they can approach the magnificent root systems.

What Makes It So Special?

A Photographer's Paradise

The dramatic root walls grow up to 5 meters high. Standing between them gives a sense of scale that looks incredibly cinematic. It is highly recommended to bring a wide-angle lens to capture the full majesty of the tree.

Pristine Countryside Experience

The journey to the tree takes you through Tua Village, offering a glimpse into the authentic, untouched Balinese countryside surrounded by lush green rice paddies and friendly locals.

Best Time to Visit

To capture the best lighting piercing through the thick canopy, we highly recommend visiting in the early morning (around 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM). The morning light casts a magical, golden glow over the massive white bark, and the village air is remarkably crisp and fresh.
