Tirta Empul is one of Bali's most significant and culturally rich Hindu temples. Located in the village of Tampaksiring, just a short drive from Ubud, the temple is renowned for its sacred holy spring water, which has been a source of spiritual cleansing and purification for Balinese Hindus since its creation in 962 AD.

The Melukat Purification Ritual

The main attraction of Tirta Empul is its large, rectangular bathing pool, fed continuously by fresh mountain spring water. By wading through the waist-deep water and bowing their heads under a series of intricately carved water spouts, participants seek spiritual cleansing and healing.

Proper Attire

As with any Balinese temple, a sarong and sash are mandatory. If you wish to enter the holy water, you must rent a specific green bathing sarong provided at the temple entrance.
