Manta Point is arguably the most famous dive and snorkel site around Nusa Penida. Located on the rugged, exposed southern coast of the island, this site is blessed with dramatic limestone cliffs towering above the swell of the Indian Ocean. However, what draws thousands of visitors here lies beneath the waves.

The Cleaning Station

The secret to Manta Point's success as a guaranteed sighting spot is the presence of several natural "cleaning stations". Here, large limestone rocks sit just a few meters beneath the surface. Reef manta rays (*Mobula alfredi*) congregate around these rocks, hovering peacefully while small wrasse fish swim around them, cleaning parasites from their skin and gills.

Because the cleaning stations are relatively shallow (often around 5 to 10 meters deep), snorkelers on the surface have an excellent view of these gentle giants. It is not uncommon to see three or four mantas circling in a graceful underwater ballet.

Unlike many places where manta sightings are rare or seasonal, Manta Point offers year-round sightings, with a very high success rate on most days.

Because it faces the open ocean, the site often experiences a rolling swell. It requires a bit of swimming ability and comfort in open water, but the reward is absolutely worth it.
