Gamat Bay:
A Snorkeler's Secret

While Crystal Bay might take the spotlight for its white sandy shores, Gamat Bay is where the true underwater adventurers go. Accessible mostly by boat, this rugged and wild bay holds some of the most untouched and vibrant coral reefs around Nusa Penida.
"Gamat Bay is like swimming in a giant natural aquarium. The colors, the life, the currents—it is nature at its most raw and beautiful."
An Underwater Aquarium
The real magic of Gamat Bay lies beneath the surface. The bay is relatively small and shallow, but it drops off into a deeper channel. This creates a rich environment where hard and soft corals thrive. You'll find yourself surrounded by schools of tropical fish, sea turtles, and occasionally reef sharks.
Because of its position in the strait between Nusa Penida and Nusa Ceningan, the currents here can be very strong. It is highly recommended to visit Gamat Bay as part of a guided boat tour, as the captains know the tides and where it is safe to drop snorkelers in the water.
What Makes It So Special?
Untouched Corals
Unlike more crowded snorkeling spots, Gamat Bay has pristine coral formations that provide shelter to countless marine species. The water clarity here is often spectacular.
Drift Snorkeling
Due to the current, boat operators often drop you at one end of the bay and pick you up at the other, allowing you to float effortlessly over the reef.
