Rumah Pohon:
The Cliffside Tree House

Rumah Pohon, commonly known as the Molenteng Tree House, is perhaps one of the most famous photography spots in all of Indonesia. Perched precariously on the edge of a towering limestone cliff on the southeastern coast of Nusa Penida, this simple wooden structure offers million-dollar views.
"A simple wooden hut at the edge of the world. The view from Rumah Pohon is nothing short of majestic."
The Perfect Perspective
The tree house itself is very basic—constructed from wood with a thatched roof and accessible by a rustic wooden staircase. However, the appeal of Rumah Pohon isn't the architecture; it's the unparalleled perspective it provides. Looking out from the balcony or the stairs leading up to it, you are treated to a sweeping panorama of the Thousand Islands Viewpoint (Pulau Seribu).
Getting to the Tree House requires a somewhat strenuous hike down a steep, winding dirt path and stairs. Because of its massive popularity on social media, there is often a queue of visitors waiting to take photos on the stairs. It is highly recommended to arrive early in the morning to beat the crowds and secure the perfect shot in the beautiful morning light.
What Makes It So Special?
Iconic Photography
The composition of the rustic wooden tree house set against the backdrop of the dramatic ocean cliffs and scattered islands is universally stunning.
Actually Bookable
Surprisingly, these tree houses are actual accommodations that you can book for the night. Waking up to the sunrise over the ocean from here is incredible.
