Gitgit Waterfall:
The Twin Cascades
Among the many waterfalls hidden in the mountainous region of North Bali, Gitgit Waterfall holds the distinction of being one of the most famous and easily accessible. Situated in the Sukasada sub-district, its impressive 35-meter plunge creates a spectacular visual and auditory experience.
"A majestic twin cascade surrounded by verdant foliage, offering a refreshing retreat from the tropical heat."
The Jungle Trek
The journey to the waterfall is half the adventure. From the main road, visitors embark on a scenic 15-minute trek along a well-maintained paved path. The trail winds through a lush gorge filled with clove, coffee, and cacao plantations, accompanied by the soothing sound of the river rushing below.
As you approach the falls, the air temperature drops noticeably, filled with cool mist. Actually consisting of two adjacent falls—hence it's often called Twin Waterfall—the water crashes powerfully into a rocky pool below. The force of the water creates a perpetual cooling breeze, making it a perfect spot to relax and take photos.
Important Visitor Tips
Swimming is Possible
You can swim in the rocky pools at the base of the waterfall, but the water is quite cold and the current from the cascade is very strong. Swim with caution.
Local Art Shops
The pathway to the waterfall is lined with small local art shops selling souvenirs, sarongs, and snacks. It's a great place to buy gifts, but be prepared to negotiate politely.
