Unlike many other beaches in Nusa Penida, Crystal Bay is very accessible and boasts calm waters within the bay. It’s one of the few places on the island where swimming is generally safe. Just a few meters from the shore, the underwater world reveals an incredible diversity of colorful coral reefs and exotic marine life.

For divers, Crystal Bay holds a special allure. It is world-renowned as one of the best locations to spot the elusive Mola Mola (Ocean Sunfish) during the right season (usually July to October). Encountering these massive, gentle creatures in the crystal clear water is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Incredible Sunsets

Facing west, Crystal Bay is undisputedly the best place in Nusa Penida to watch the sunset. The view of the sun dropping behind the small rocky island in the middle of the bay is magical.

Between July and October, the waters around Crystal Bay become a hotspot for spotting the rare Ocean Sunfish (Mola Mola) rising from the deep.

Best Time to Visit

To enjoy the beach and snorkeling with fewer crowds, arrive early in the morning. However, if you want the quintessential Crystal Bay experience, come in the late afternoon (around 4:30 PM), grab a fresh coconut from a local warung, relax on the sand, and wait for the spectacular sunset.
